Venice

Everyone who has traveled to Venice has taken this picture.  Nonetheless, it is a beautiful sight.  We are here exploring and enjoying the experience.  Our legs are sore from walking, but the sights are worth the effort.

We are staying at Casa Accademia, a non-profit hostel in a central part of Venice whose proceeds go to fund housing for 110 students, from across the world, who come to study at the universities of Venice.  Our building was a dormitory and the rooms still feel that way.  Anyway, it’s a good cause and we have slept in tents, sheds and teepees.  A dorm room?  How romantic.

The Libreria Acqua Alta is a bookstore with a gondola full of your favorites.

In the pictures below, you do see laundry hanging.  People, other than tourists, do still live in Venice.  Many have moved away due to over-tourism, the cost of living, and the impractical nature of living in a tourist attraction.  Tourists bring in money, but they also destroy what was a livable city for locals.  Climate change and a future of rising seas put Venice at risk of disappearing.

So, keep the Mafia out.  Gelato kills Covid.  And, I know many of you have seen the South Philly Trifecta.

More to come.
