Spain: Ronda, Setenil y Mijas

This is the Bullfighting Ring in Ronda, Spain.  In our return to our travels, we have started with a visit to one of Bridget’s best friends from her Peace Corps’ days, who happens to live in La Duquesa, Spain, Linda.

From La Duquesa, we have visited three Andalucian towns, Ronda, Setenil and Mijas.  All three are beautiful with many sites to see.

This is a statue of a bullfighter. The Spanish started fighting bulls because the Moors taught them to do so. They rode animals better and were able to hold a weapon.

Ronda is home to one of the first Bullfighting Rings in Spain.  Although legal in Spain, some Spanish cities have outlawed the practice of bullfighting. There are only a few countries throughout the world where this practice still takes place (Spain, France, Portugal, Mexico, Colombia, Venezuela, Peru, and Ecuador).

A view of Setenil. Setenil town is built into the rocks and is a very neat place to visit.

Great views from high above. There are always great vantage points from above to below.

These are pictures of Calle Herreria in Setenil.  It has homes built into the caves in the side of the cliff.  The caves go back to prehistoric times as early human dwellings.  They are a little more upscale, now.

What we have noticed is that there are a lot of similarities between North Americans and Europeans. There has been little change in all this time. We look very similar and act similar too. We love the similarities and differences we see all around us.
